Betty Kityui
CHAIR
Betty is chair of the board of Turning Leaves.
Betty is a science teacher and poet, with a degree in chemistry from Makerere University. She has taught science from foundation classes in secondary school to delivering lectures at top universities in Uganda and on occasions to international students. She currently serves as a regional manager for Fundi Bots, a Ugandan NGO focused on improving secondary science education in Uganda.
She has been awarded recognition in her field as a mentor for girls in STEM and has won acclaimed writing prizes, is published, and has served on several panels as a judge for both literary and scientific competitions locally and internationally.
In recent years, Betty has settled in Mbale with her husband and high school son, and hosts a lovely B&B in their beautiful home with a lush garden.

Emma Stewart
BOARD MEMBER
Emma is a nursery school teacher from Scotland.
She has since a young age been determined to live in Uganda, which she now counts as home.
She is passionate about early learning and helping those who are disadvantaged, whether materially or because they have special support needs.
Emma also acts as secretary to the board.

Joseph Ekure
BOARD MEMBER
Joseph is the founding director of Turning Leaves and has much experience of working with NGOs.
He lives in Namabasa with his wife Irene, four biological children and three foster children.
As well as spending time with his family, Joseph enjoys farming his small plot of land. He loves networking and is great at working with people.

Priscilla Iroku
BOARD MEMBER
Priscilla has a degree in business administration and is a certified public accountant.
She has experience working for the Uganda Revenue Authority, a micro finance company, a clean energy business, and a theological college.
Priscilla is married to Emma (Emmanuel), who is a secondary school teacher, and they have two children.

Philip Lotimong
BOARD MEMBER
Philip is from the Karamoja region in north east Uganda, where he grew up in a life of great poverty and deprivation.
He is a leader of a successful and vibrant non-denominational church in Namabasa and is on the ministry team and board of a Dutch supported retreat centre called Mto Moyoni, which is based in Jinja.
He is married to Rose and they have two school aged children.

Ian Stewart
EXERNAL ADVISOR
Ian is not a member of the board but acts as an advisor. He is Emma Stewart’s father.
Ian is married to Jenny, who is a special needs tutor and registered primary school teacher. They have two other children, both medical doctors, and two grandchildren.
Ian was an architect for over 30 years, and enjoys nature, walking, skiing and reading.
